Venice Uber Shooting: Two Of Three People Arrested Released From Custody:

Two of three people arrested on alleged weapons-related offenses after shots were fired at the Uber car in which they were passengers in Venice were released from custody Thursday.

The Uber driver was wounded in the gang-related shooting, which occurred about 3:50 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Lucille and Louella avenues.

He was treated at a hospital and released the same day, according to Los Angeles police Officer Nuria Vanegas. He was shot in the upper body or arm.

His passengers — Isiah Caldwell, Joseph Dews and Idalia Munoz — were arrested at the scene, Vanegas said.

Munoz and Dews, both 19, were released from custody today and were given tentative court dates of Aug. 26 at the Airport Branch Courthouse, according to sheriff’s online inmate records.

Caldwell, 21, was released Wednesday and is tentatively due at the Airport Courthouse Aug. 27. Bail for all three had initially been set at $35,000, according to the sheriff’s department.

Police said four or five suspects were in a silver or gold Kia Optima that pulled alongside the Uber vehicle and opened fire at the passengers, who had been picked up in the Venice Beach area, police said. Those suspects all remain at large.

Although the passengers were not wounded, they were detained because at least two of them were allegedly carrying weapons, police said.

Uber officials said they are cooperating with the investigation.

“Our thoughts are with our partner-driver as he recovers and we are thankful that he is doing okay,” according to a statement by Uber spokeswoman Kayla Whaling. “We are cooperating with local law enforcement on any requests for information that would be helpful to their investigation.”
