A Santa Monica man and woman in a dating relationship were arrested and charged with domestic battery after an argument escalated on Thursday, Dec. 3. at 7:30 pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a report of a “disturbance” between a man and a woman at a residence in the 500 block of Colorado Ave.
Upon arrival the officers spoke with the female half of the duo in question and she said that she had been involved in an argument with her boyfriend.
She said that during the course of the conflict her boyfriend had thrown a box of cigarettes at her and that the box of cigarettes had struck her in the head causing great alarm and fear.
She also said that in response to this action she had struck her boyfriend.
She added that she had then attempted multiple times to enter her residence in order to escape from her boyfriend but each time he had restricted her attempts and had taunted her repeatedly.
The officers reviewed recordings from a nearby surveillance camera, which showed the physical motion of the conflict.
The officers, however, were unable to determine which of the parties involved was the primary aggressor so they decided to arrest both the female, aged 20, and her boyfriend, aged 32.
They were later individually charged with domestic battery and bail was set at $20,000 each.
