Two New Hotels in Santa Monica Gain Union Recognition

Workers at the Courtyard Marriott Santa Monica, and its neighboring property, the Hampton Inn Santa Monica, won Union recognition and will be represented by UNITE HERE Local 11.

Each hotel has 35 workers who will join the union. A majority of the employees at each hotel signed cards to join the Union, and the hotel management granted recognition yesterday.

The hotel management, the Union, and the Hospitality Training Academy (HTA) had a breakthrough success on local hiring at these two hotels. Roughly one third of employees at each hotel are Santa Monica residents.

The Courtyard Marriott Inn will celebrate its grand opening today. The Hampton Inn Santa Monica is schedule to open in the next few weeks. Both hotels are part of the Colorado Esplanade, a promenade designed to connect the final stop of the Expo Line to the Santa Monica Pier and the Third Street Promenade.
