The Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) temporarily closed down Santa Monica Boulevard near the Third Street Promenade after a suspicious package was found Sunday morning.
“Please stay out of the area of 4th and Santa Monica. We are investigating a suspicious package. We have the area contained and are waiting on bomb squad to arrive. More information will follow once they determine what we have,” SMPD wrote in a 10:23 a.m. tweet.

At 11:09 a.m. the SMPD announced that police activity had concluded, the area was clear and that the suspicious package was been deemed non-threatening.
This is the second time in the past week a suspicious package has been found near the Third Street Promenade. On Monday, September 16 a pressure-cooker-like object was spotted in a trash container in front of the Urban Outfitters on the Third Street Promenade, closing down a portion of the shopping destination for several hours as police investigated before determining the object posed no public safety risk.
