Caltrans to Close Lanes, Restrict Parking on State Route 2 in West Los Angeles

Daytime Construction, 24-Hour Parking Bans to Impact Santa Monica Boulevard as Crews Upgrade Curbs, Gutters, and Sidewalks.

Caltrans will implement lane closures and around-the-clock parking restrictions along State Route 2 in West Los Angeles and Echo Park from Monday, November 3, through Sunday, November 9, as part of an ongoing multimodal improvement project designed to upgrade curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.

Construction work will take place daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with limited overnight closures and 24-hour parking restrictions in effect throughout the week. Drivers should plan for potential delays and consider alternate routes where possible.

Segment A: West Los Angeles (Nov. 3–9)

  • Up to one lane will be closed in both eastbound and westbound directions on Santa Monica Boulevard between Centinela Avenue and Amherst Drive.
  • No parking will be permitted in either direction along Santa Monica Boulevard during construction.
  • The Big Blue Bus stop at Main Street and Santa Monica Boulevard has been temporarily relocated to Carmelina Avenue.

Driveways to businesses will remain accessible during construction, though motorists can expect reduced shoulder space and restricted parking in both directions. Advance signage will be posted to alert drivers of the closures.

The project is part of Caltrans’s broader effort to improve safety, accessibility, and roadway durability along SR-2, which serves as a critical corridor connecting the Westside and central Los Angeles.

Caltrans advises motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” and “Slow for the Cone Zone” to ensure safety for both drivers and construction crews.
