Venice Family Clinic Holiday Benefit And Screening Raises Funds, Children’s Spirits:

Kenny G performs at event

On Saturday, December 10, 2005, the Venice Family Clinic, the nation’s largest free medical clinic, held  its annual holiday benefit screening for over 1,200 kids, ages 6 to 12, from the community at the Loews Cineplex in Marina del Rey.

The benefit raised funds for the Clinic and its pediatric programs, and entertained the children, many of whom live in local homeless shelters and are Clinic patients who attend neighborhood schools.

Loews Cineplex donated four theatres for the screening of Kronk’s New Groove. Disney provided  the movie, a Kronk’s New Groove DVD and a Disney toy for each of the 1,200 children.

In addition, saxophonist Kenny G  performed at the screening, joining the movie’s “voices,” Patrick Warburton and Wendie Malick, along with over 100 of the Clinic’s volunteers.

“I’m excited about playing for 1,200 kids,” says Kenny, “I’m honored to support the very important work of the Venice Family Clinic.”

The Venice Family Clinic’s Children’s Holiday benefit has become an annual tradition supported by the film community:

Benefit co-chairs Kelly Meyer and Diedre Gordon,  with the help of their Hollywood friends and associates, have raised over $1 million for the Clinic’s Pediatric Programs in the last decade.  Founded in 1970, the Venice Family Clinic provides medical services year-round to over 21,000 children and adults at seven Westside locations.  Proceeds from the Children’s Holiday Movie will provide essential medical services from immunizations to chronic care for diseases such as asthma and diabetes for nearly 6,000 children and teens that rely on the Venice Family Clinic for their medical care.
