By Tim Broughton

Skating On Thin Ice.

On Wednesday, August 16, at 3:34 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on a routine patrol in the area of the 1400 block of Lincoln Boulevard when they spotted a man holding a skateboard in an unorthodox fashion. The officers watched as this man then proceeded to throw the skateboard at the glass door of the CVS Store causing it to shatter, before retrieving the skateboard, mount said conveyance and ride away towards Santa Monica Boulevard. The officers sprang into action and caught up with this man and detained him while they got to the bottom of what had just transpired. As a result of their investigation the officers discovered that the skateboard rider had entered the CVS Store, attempted to conceal some merchandise beneath his attire and that when the manager of the store had confronted the skateboard rider about his activities the skateboard rider had become enraged, yelling profanities at the store manager and making ludicrous threats. The skateboard rider had then exited the store (sans merchandise) and had stopped, looked at the manager through the glass doors, and then hurled the skateboard at the glass door causing it to shatter. As a result of this action the store manager was slightly injured as glass shards struck him. The officers arrested the suspect, aged 26 and of an unknown place of residence and he was later charged with assault with deadly weapon. Bail was set at $30,000.

The Keys To Jail.

On Wednesday, August 16, at 2:25 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department spotted an individual in the 500 block of Colorado Boulevard with whom they had experienced numerous professional encounters. The officers approached this woman and initiated a conversation with her. During the course of this conversation the officers remembered that this person was on probation and also had a court order against her that demanded that she stay away from that particular area of town. The officers then searched this woman and discovered that she was in possession of a hypodermic syringe as well as some keys that belonged to a nearby property The officers were able to locate the rightful owner of the keys who told them that his car had recently been broken into and that the keys had been taken from the vehicle. The officers arrested this 30-year-old Los Angeles resident and she was later charged with possession of narcotics paraphernalia, appropriation of lost property and a court order violation. Bail was set at $5,000.

Brotherly Love.

On Thursday, August 17, at 9:55 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a radio call informing them that a disturbance was in progress at a residence located in the 2200 block of Colorado Boulevard. The officers rushed to the scene and discovered that a brother and a sister were involved in a physical altercation. The officers separated the siblings before beginning their investigation. The officers learned that earlier the brother and sister had begun to argue and that this argument had escalated into violence whereupon the brother had repeatedly kicked and punched the sister before attempting to strangle her. The officers arrested the brother and he was later charged with assault with serious injury. The officers subsequently learned that the brother also had an outstanding “no bail” warrant for assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was denied for this 25-year-old Santa Monica resident.

Husband Tries To Murder Wife!

On Friday, August 25, at 11:35 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to investigate an assault with a deadly weapon incident in an apartment block located in the 800 block of Lincoln Boulevard. When the officers arrived at the scene they determined that a husband had stabbed his wife. The officers went in search of the husband and discovered the man lurking in the alley to the rear of the building. The officers detained this husband and noticed that he had a small stab wound to his chest that the officers deemed to be self-inflicted. The wife had sustained a stab wound to her neck. The officers summoned the Santa Monica Fire Department whereupon paramedics treated both spouses before they were both transported under police security to a local hospital for further medical treatment. The husband, aged 41 and a Santa Monica resident was later arrested and charged with attempted murder. Bail was set at One Million Dollars.
