Brentwood Has Team Average Over .500:

The Brentwood High baseball team compiled a .421 batting average in its first five games, winning four.

Leading the way are Mikey Wapnick at .636 (7 for 11) and Ryan Toomin at .500 (7 for 14). Taylor Ross is batting .467.

After losing to Windward, 8-2, Brentwood won its last two games from Oakwood (16-4) and New Roads (4-1).

St. Monica also has some heavy hitters but lost its first two Del Rey League games to St. Paul, 8-6 and 8-4.

The Mariners, who are 3-4 overall, are led by Brandon Tobin (.412), Kyle Schvan (.400), Michael Duval (389) and Taylor Gelbrich (.316).

In the LA City Section, both Venice and Palisades are on winning streaks after beginning the season with losses.

Venice dropped its first two games, but has won five in a row, defeating Lynwood 4-2, Crenshaw 14-6, Leuzinger 6-1, Lincoln 15-5 and Sylmar 10-5.

Jack Richardson and Troy Sommo are batting .500. Richardson also leads the team in RBI with 10.

Two pitchers, Richardson and Graham Davis, have 2-1 records. Palisades has a 3-3 record. After losing three games the Dolphins have defeated St. Bernard 15-0, Malibu 12-7 and Carson 5-1.
