SCHNITZER, Jerry Passed away Nov. 11. Born 1928, Brooklyn, NY. Korean War vet, factory worker, school teacher, taxi driver and founder of the Independent Taxi Owners Association. Lived in L.A. since the 1950’s. Jerry lived for social justice. He was active in many of the struggles which shaped L.A; including integration of schools and neighborhoods, peace, union activities, local and state election campaigns. His interests and Jewish heritage merged in his involvement with Workman’s Circle in West L.A. Until recently he was a mainstay in the Veterans for Peace “Arlington West” memorial in Santa Monica, dedicated to the fallen in Iraq and Afghanistan. We remember Jerry for his quick wit, critical eye and gregarious nature. He was a stickler for details who took pride in standing up for what he thought was right. Jerry was preceded by his wife, Ellie; and is survived by two sons Walter and Daniel Henrickson, three grandchildren, and loving relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at Workman’s Circle, 1525 S. Robertson Blvd., 90035, on Weds., Nov. 14, 7 p.m. Remembrances to Workman’s Circle, or to Veterans for Peace.
