Designed by Cecil Gale, this Mediterranean retreat features an Andalusian guest house and organic gardens.

Hoteliers behind the renowned Surfrider Hotel in Malibu have brought their signature design aesthetic to the residential market, listing a meticulously restored 1930s Spanish turnkey estate for $6.595 million, as reported by Mansion Global.

Known as “Casa Princeton,” the single-story residence at 843 Princeton Street is situated in Santa Monica’s exclusive “Collegiate Streets” neighborhood. Initially designed in 1936 by architect Cecil Gale, the home was transformed by its current owners, internationally recognized architects and designers, to bridge the gap between historic architectural integrity and luxury hospitality.

The property comprises a three-bedroom main house and a permitted one-bedroom detached guest house, providing a total of four bedrooms and four bathrooms across 2,340 square feet. Interior highlights include hand-troweled plaster walls, original oak flooring, and custom Farrow & Ball pigments. The chef’s kitchen features professional-grade appliances from Miele, Thermador, and AGA Elise, paired with integrated Italian marble sinks.

The primary suite emulates a high-end hotel retreat, with French doors opening to a terracotta terrace and a heated saltwater swimming pool. The guest cottage, titled “La Casa de la Piscina,” draws inspiration from Andalusian farmhouses, utilizing reclaimed wood beams and raw terracotta floors to create a seamless indoor-outdoor flow.

Wellness and sustainability served as guiding principles for the renovation. The estate utilizes low-VOC paints and a comprehensive water filtration system throughout. Outside, the gated 0.18-acre lot is home to organic market gardens and landscaping designed by award-winning architect P. Keningale, featuring mature olive trees, jasmine vines, and imported European stone fountains.

Located within the Franklin School District, the home is positioned just blocks from the Brentwood Country Mart and Montana Avenue. Cindy Ambuehl of Christie’s International Real Estate holds the listing.
