Festival of the Chariots

August 3, 10am-5pm, free

Procession begins at Santa Monica Civic Center, moves south on Main Street to Ocean Front Walk Plaza, Venice. 310.836.2676.

Although it no longer features live elephants, the Society for Krishna Consciousness’s annual Festival of the Chariots is a major summer event at the beach. The largest festival of Indian culture outside of India itself begins with a procession down Main Street and Ocean Front Walk, with flower-festooned chariots, music, and joyous sari-clad devotees. At the Venice Plaza near Windward, booths will offer cooking demonstrations, free food, music, books, and information about the Krishna Society.

Don Felder of the Eagles

August 4, 7pm, free, MLK Jr. Auditorium,

Santa Monica Main Library, 601 Santa Monica Blvd., 310.450.8600.

Despite their ubiquitous presence on classic rock radio, the Eagles don’t talk very often about their roller-coaster rock odyssey. But Don Felder has now written a book, Heaven and Hell: My Life in the Eagles (1974-2001) and will be discussing it with author David Rensin. A signing will follow.
