Authorities Identify Man At Center Of Santa Monica Police Standoff On Saturday:

A 28-year-old man remains jailed today, nursing police dog bites and facing a likely murder charge and $1 million bail, for the stabbing death of a man.

David Carrillo barricaded himself inside an Ocean Park apartment for more than five hours, tying traffic in southern Santa Monica up for hours Saturday. Carrillo is due in court Tuesday, at the Inglewood Municipal Courthouse, according to jail records.

He was wrestled into custody about 5 p.m. Saturday after tear gas was used to roust him from the apartment. He emerged shirtless and limped down an outdoor stairway, as a police dog had clamped onto his leg.

A sheriff’s SWAT unit and armored personnel carrier were sent to an apartment block in the 800 block of Ocean Park Boulevard, near Lincoln Boulevard, at 12:32 p.m. Saturday to assist the sheriff’s department’s Major Crimes Bureau with the barricaded suspect, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Some neighbors were briefly trapped in the line of fire, and snuck out of neighboring apartments as deputies in body armor formed a human shield for them, according to broadcast reports.

“The situation concluded after tear gas was deployed into the location,” Deputy Grace Medrano of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau said. “As the suspect began to exit the location, he attempted to return back inside when the Special Enforcement Bureau canine was deployed.

“The canine was able to control and bring the suspect to awaiting deputy personnel with no further incident.”

Carrillo was wanted in connection with a homicide about 4:10 p.m. on Feb. 10 on Vermont Avenue, in an unincorporated area near South Los Angeles, Medrano said.

Wesley Morejon, 30, was stabbed and died at a hospital, according to coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter, who said the man was injured in the 8900 bock of Vermont Avenue.
