Gas Co. Awards Scholarship to SM Students:

Southern California Gas Company has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Jennifer Pacheco of Santa Monica to help pay her college expenses.

“The scholarship recognizes academic achievement and other important signs of character,” said Kimberly Freeman, director of community relations at The Gas Company. “We’re awarding scholarships to about 100 high school seniors in Southern California this year as a way of partnering with our communities and improving the quality of life for young people with high potential.”

Pacheco, who graduated from Santa Monica High School in June, played on the school’s basketball team and served as secretary of the Police Activities League’s youth group. She plans to study veterinary science at UC Davis.The Gas Company is the nation’s largest natural gas distribution utility, providing energy to 19.5 million consumers through 5.5 million meters. The company’s service territory encompasses approximately 20,000 square miles in most of central and Southern California. It’s a regulated subsidiary of Sempra Energy (NYSE: SRE), a Fortune 500 energy holding company based in San Diego.
