Santa Monica College won its first game of the football season following seven defeats, 48-23 over East Los Angeles. Freshman quarterback Colin Clancy threw three touchdown passes and also ran for 90 yards. David Whaley caught four passes, three for touchdowns of 70, 53 and nine yards. Freshman Lavon Macon ran for 171 yards and scored two touchdowns.

“We put a complete game together,” said Coach Robert Taylor.

SMC will play Saturday at first place Glendale.

Venice High defeated Westchester, 23-17, although star running back Kenny Ashley played only briefly because of the flu.

Palisades lost to Hamilton, 25-3 and is 0-3 in the Western League.

University lost for the first time this season, 7-6 to Fairfax. It has a 7-1 record, with Western League games remaining against Venice and Westchester.

Undefeated Lighthouse Christian had a bye last weekend and will play Price at Daniels Field in San Pedro Saturday with the kickoff scheduled for noon. Lighthouse Christian is ranked No. 1 in 8-man Division 15 by the CIF and No. 6 in the nation by MaxPreps.com.

Girls’ Volleyball

Lighthouse Christian defeated St. Monica in a non-league match, 23-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-12 as Stephanie Sommers had 13 kills. Senior Jaymie Jiminez, who had been out all season following an automobile accident, contributed 10 digs.

Santa Monica defeated Cuver City in an Ocean League match, 3-1.New Roads defeated Community Harvest.
