Santa Monica High quarterback Ryan Katz honored his earlier non-binding verbal commitment to Oregon State University by signing a letter of intent with the Beavers on national signing day, February 6.
Katz arrived at Samohi four years ago, and Darius Banks arrived at Culver City High, both heralded prospects. They faced each other four times, on freshman teams first and then three years at the varsity level, with Katz’ team winning the first three games and Banks’ team winning this season, 30-27.
Banks is going to Eastern Washington University, where he will be ineligible the first year. He admitted that academic problems prevented him from playing for Oregon, his first choice.
