February 10, 8 p.m.

50th Annual Grammy Awards, CBS

As a semi-finalist for the “My Grammy Moment 2008” contest, Santa Monica resident Christine Wu will be playing violin onstage with the Foo Fighters during the Grammy winners performance of “The Pretender.” Wu, who spent four seasons as a tenured member of the Houston Symphony and is currently a member of the group LA Strings, was prompted to enter the contest after reading about it in Music Connection. Her contest entry, which can be found on YouTube, featured a lively solo tailor-made to fit the Foo Fighters’ forceful sound. “I have to rock,” says Wu of her audition piece. “I don’t necessarily want to play anything lyrical and pretty. It’s a really hardcore song. So, I just went for it.” John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin will conduct the Foo Fighters orchestra.
