What’s Hot:

Westside Voices and Bernie Pearl

May 18, 4pm, $15

Beyond Baroque, 681 Venice Blvd., Venice, 310.822.9067.

Bernie Pearl has been playing blues around town for longer than many rockers have been alive – and that’s an advantage when you’re singing the blues. He’s described as “old school,” which also translates as paying tribute to the blues artists of yore. Accompanying him are the Westside Voices, who will perform from a diverse repertoire of songs, a cappella.

Dianne Reeves

May 22, 8pm, $15-$58

Royce Hall, UCLA, Westwood, 310.825.2101.

UCLA Live! is winding down for the season but it’s saved this treat for (almost) last. Dianne Reeves is one of today’s premiere jazz vocalists. The winner of four Grammies has recorded 19 albums (the latest is When you Know on Blue Note Records), sang in the movie Good Night and Good Luck, and is known for her live shows. At Royce Hall, she will be joined by guitarist Romero Bubambo, bassist Reuben Rogers, drummer Greg Hutchinson, and pianist/musical director Peter Martin.
