Escarce Endorsed:

In what can only be described as an odd turn of events, Santa Monicans for Renters’ Rights (SMRR), gave Jose Escarce their endorsement for membership on the SMMUSD Board of Education, despite the fact that the membership rejected Escarce’s bid in several separate votes. Escarce lost the final membership vote by a single vote.

Led by Denny Zane, the leader of SMRR, the Steering Committee overruled the membership’s votes and endorsed Escarce. It is also worth noting that Zane has been on the District payroll as a consultant. The teachers union has also endorsed Escarce, a physician and researcher at RAND, as they did in his two previously successful bids for a seat on the Board in 2000 and 2004.
