Rewarding The Heroes In Your Community:

(NAPSI)—Many acts of kindness go unnoticed each day. One program aims to change that by recognizing and rewarding community heroes.

The Fueling Good campaign is giving away a year’s worth of fuel each month through November 2009 to individuals or charities that are improving the lives of others in their communities.

The first monthly winner was the Children’s Volunteer Health Network, a group of more than 80 health care professionals and community volunteers who provide medical and dental care to needy children in Florida. Another early winner was Bill Hutson, founder of Table Talk Ministries, who uses his skills as a master craftsman, money out of his own pocket and his own free time to make home repairs for elderly and disabled residents across his Indiana community.

Other finalists have included people who are collecting bread for the homeless, teaching disabled children to swim, or cycling to raise money for and awareness of ovarian cancer research.

The program, supported by CITGO Petroleum Corporation, invites local heroes to tell how they are “fueling good” in their communities by submitting their story at www.FuelingGood.com.

Each month, five finalists are selected from the entries posted to the Web site. Then it is up to the American public to vote for its favorite. The winning entry will receive a year’s supply of fuel. There will also be a “last chance” award in December for all the monthly finalists.

The hope is that these inspiring stories will encourage others to “fuel good” in their own communities.

The program’s goals are aligned with the social development principles of the CITGO shareholder, Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A., the national oil company of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The contest echoes the support that the company’s employees, as well as the owners and operators of the nearly 7,000 locally owned CITGO gasoline stations and fast lubes across the country, give their own communities every day.
