A formal groundbreaking ceremony will be held this morning in Santa Monica to mark a milestone in changes to the County’s regional transportation system.
Expo Construction Authority Board Members will join local elected officials for the groundbreaking event to officially mark the beginning of construction on Phase 2 of the Expo Line project – the extension of light rail from Culver City to Santa Monica.
The light rail extension, once open in 2015, will bring greater mobility to the region by connecting the Westside to the existing rail network.
The $1.5 billion project will include seven new stations at key destinations along the corridor.
The complete Expo Line will provide a faster and more reliable way to travel from downtown Los Angeles to Santa Monica.
