Homeless Man Threatens To Kill Children On Santa Monica Beach: APB: Danger In The Playground

On Saturday, Sept. 17, at 9:31 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the 1600 block of the beach because a father had called them to tell them that a man was threatening to kill his children.

When the officers arrived at the scene they spoke with the victims, a husband and wife, and their children.

The officers learned that this family had been playing in the playground when the suspect had approached them and told the children that he would wager that if he were to beat them to death there and then, their parents would not do anything about it.

He then threatened to assault the dad.

The family left the play area in order to escape from the vicinity of this person while they called the police.

The officers found this man a short distance away and he was arrested for criminal threats and a probation violation.

The bail for this 34-year-old homeless man was set at $50,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
