Santa Monica Red Cross Comes To The Aid Of Fourth Street Residential Fire Victim:

The American Red Cross Los Angeles Region Disaster Operations Center responded to a call-out from the Santa Monica Fire Department at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, to render assistance at a residential fire in the 900 block of Fourth Street in Santa Monica.

The SMFD had responded to the early morning fire in a ground floor front room of a one story duplex occupied by three adults.

No injuries were reported and one resident was not at home when the fire started. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A Los Angeles Region of the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) comprised primarily of Santa Monica volunteers was on scene at 5:10 a.m. and provided emergency assistance for the victims by securing temporary housing and providing allowances for food and clothing.

Fire, water, and smoke damage rendered the building uninhabitable and it has been red-tagged by the City of Santa Monica.

The Red Cross has already arranged for housing at a local motor inn for two fire victims. Additional support from the Red Cross will include longer term relocation help, counseling and other services if needed.

The Santa Monica chapter of the American Red Cross is located at 1450 11th Street, in Santa Monica.
