Have you ever circled around Santa Monica looking for parking only to find ‘full’ signs lit up?
Well a new mobile-friendly parking map has been launched that provides real-time parking availability for the City of Santa Monica’s 33 downtown and beach parking facilities.
Users can now go to www.smgov.net/mobileparkingmaps to find real time parking information using any mobile phone with an Internet connection.
Through GPS technology, the site automatically centers the map to a user’s current location and displays which nearby lots have available spaces and which lots are full. The hope is that by allowing motorists to more quickly find parking, cars will spend less time on city streets and visitors can spend more time enjoying the city’s beaches, restaurants and shopping.
The mobile parking map is part of a larger mobile website coming this spring where users will find information about city services and facilities, the City Council, and links to a variety of other resources in addition to the real time parking information.
