Five Shows Remain As Part Of Fireside At The Miles Program:

A handful of performances remain as part of the 2012/13 Fireside at the Miles program that wraps up next weekend.

Doors open at 7:15 p.m. for all performances with each show starting at 8 p.m. Admission is just $10 for adults and $5 for students, seniors, and youth aged 17 and under.

Here is a brief run down of the final shows:

Friday, Jan. 18: Orchestra Santa Monica Woodwind Quintet

The OSM Woodwind Quintet is a cornerstone in Orchestra Santa Monica’s educational and community outreach. The quintet’s mission is to provide live music programs in traditionally under-served parts of our community. The quintet often performs in Title I schools, whose students have little access to live concert music. By incorporating educational talks into each performance, the quintet enhances the learning experience for younger audiences and helps introduce them to new or unfamiliar genres.

Saturday, Jan 19: Poetry and Spoken Word

So Fresh and So Clean present Poetry Unhinged – hosted by Joe Hernandez-Kolski and Joshua Silverstein. Special guests include HBO Def Poet Mayda del Valle, Tap Dancer Sarah Reich, and Comedian/MC Zach Sherwin (aka Mr. Napkins).

Thursday, Jan 24: Contemporary Dance curated by Suchi Branfman

An evening of diverse dance approaches to traveling through cultural, physical, and spiritual contact, boundaries and borders. The three soloists in this evening of contemporary dance – Suchi Branfman, Sheetal Gandhi, and Roxane Steinberg – are all inspired by the cultural contact that they make as performers, moving into and through other worlds. Join them for a trip from the comfort of your seat.

Friday, Jan 25: Hart Pulse Dance Company

Hart Pulse Dance Company creates unforgettable and inspiring works that refresh Southern California’s love for dance. Through contemporary movement, HPDC brings their cutting edge blend of ballet, modern and jazz to break the barrier between dancer and viewer.

Saturday, Jan 26: Dance and Music with String Theory

String Theory is a hybrid performance ensemble featuring musicians, dancers, sonic sculpture and visual installations. Giant site-specific invented instruments provide the landscape where the performances to unfold. The ensemble was founded by instrument designer and composer, Luke Rothschild; choreographer/director, Holly Rothschild; and cellist and composer, Joseph Harvey.

For reservations to any of these performances call 310.458.8634, email milesplayhouse@smgov.net, or visit fireside.milesplayhouse.org for more information.
