Readers responded to Steve Stajich’s Mirror column regarding the U.S. Postal Service, and were united in their support of sustaining it.
Some saw letters and mail as a means of maintaining privacy.
As Mirror reader Luke Cowles wrote, “We’ve sacrificed our privacy on the altar of convenience. The USPS is the last of a lot of things for this nation and it’s a shame if we just allow it to fade away.”
And “Portia” wrote that she thought post office workers might smile a bit more and suggested that “if these government workers acted like they were glad to have their jobs and lucky to have them at that, more people would use the post offices.”
Stajich replies “I collected stamps as a kid and so I likely feel nostalgic about the USPS as well as hopeful that the simple transport of a letter doesn’t become an overpriced corporate commodity.”
