For the third year in a row, Vistamar School will have a student–athlete sign a Letter of Intent to join a Division I university athletic program.
Vistamar started the 2012-2013 school year with senior Hallie Mossett signing to a full-ride scholarship for Gymnastics at UCLA.
Now, senior Colin McCall has decided to join Stanford University’s Men’s Volleyball program on a partial scholarship.
With McCall accepting this offer, he will be joining another Vistamar alumnus, Alex Stephanus ’11, who also is a member of Stanford’s volleyball program.
McCall decided to start playing volleyball only three years ago.
He was known around the South Bay as a big basketball player until he felt it was time to move onto another sport.
So he decided to follow in his brother’s footsteps and take up volleyball. Volleyball has now given him the opportunity to play at the highest level and earn an education at Stanford University.
With only having three years of experience, McCall has many accomplishments.
He currently plays club volleyball at MB Surf, which finished 5th at the Junior Olympics in the Open Division last year as well as finishing 2nd in the SCVA.
When McCall is not playing club, he is participating in USA volleyball where he was named the “Best Outside Hitter” of the entire camp in March 2012.
On the court he was named to the All CIF First team in 2011 and 2012, selected to the All-Tournament team in multiple tournaments, 2012 All Santa Fe League 1st team, and has been the team captain for the last two years.
Off the court, McCall is equally accomplished. He is graduating from Vistamar with a 3.8 GPA and completing 5 AP courses in the last two years — ready to take on that Stanford University
McCall was recruited by multiple universities such as Pepperdine, UCSD, Princeton, and NYU before he decided that Stanford was going to be his next home.
He is truly looking forward to attending Stanford and sharing his volleyball talent with his new teammates.
