A movie prop that was thought to have been a possible stick of dynamite caused the evacuation of an office building in the 2800 block of Colorado Avenue on Thursday afternoon.
SMPD Sgt. Richard Lewis said officers responded to the office building at 4:13 pm regarding a possible stick of Dynamite being found inside an office.
“Upon arrival, officers contacted the reporting party, who told them that the item resembling Dynamite, was brought to his office approximately two days ago by another person, who apparently found it in the Temescal Canyon area, not knowing what it was,” Lewis said. “Officers confirmed it appeared to be a stick of Dynamite and evacuated the immediate area with surrounding road closures.”
Upon the arrival of the LASD Bomb Squad, Lewis said it was determined that the item was a movie prop.
“There is no crime being investigated,” he said.
The command post, perimeter, and evacuation notice was released at approximately 7 pm.
