A white male aged in his 30s wearing a cowboy hat got away with about $4,000 cash after an armed robbery at the U.S. Bank branch at 3302 Pico Boulevard in Santa Monica on Monday afternoon.
SMPD Sgt. Jay Moroso told The Mirror officers responded to the branch at 2 pm after the department was notified of the bank robbery.
Moroso said the suspect told the teller he had a gun and motioned to his waistband.
“After obtaining the cash, the suspect fled on foot south from the location out of sight,” Moroso said. “Responding officers were unable to locate the suspect. Detectives were notified and responded to process the scene.”
Moroso said the suspect is described as 5’9” thin build, clean-shaven, wearing a brown cowboy hat, brown t-shirt, and black pants.
A witness inside the bank, who asked not to be named, said he was next in line filling out a deposit slip out at the counter when the robbery occured.
“I looked up and the girl was smiling at me,” the witness said. “There was a guy standing there at the window. The next thing he walked out beside me and ran off.”
