Ruptured Venice Water Main Releases 100,000 Gallons Into Neighborhood:

A burst water main flooded 25 homes in Venice overnight, authorities said.

The rupture released an estimated 100,000 gallons into the neighborhood around Carroll Canal and Dell Street, said Los Angeles Fire Department Captain Rex Vilaubi.

The main break was reported around 10:30 p.m. Monday. Vilaubi said the water has undermined the surrounding concrete. The same main burst in August 2013.

Gale Harris, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, said he break measured six inches and caused 20 customers to lose water service, which was expected to be restored by early afternoon.
