Century Boulevard To LAX Begins Overnight Closures For Two Weeks:

Motorists heading toward Los Angeles International Airport may want to plan ahead starting next week, with overnight closures planned on westbound Century Boulevard beginning Monday and continuing for two weeks.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Monday, westbound Century will be closed between Aviation Boulevard and Bellanca Avenue. The road will be closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. weeknights through Nov. 21.

The closure will accommodate construction work on the Aviation/Century station for the Crenshaw/LAX light rail line, which will connect the Metro Expo and Green lines. According to Metro, a contractor will be drilling two 80-foot-deep holes on the Century Boulevard median that will be used for columns supporting the aerial rail station.

Eastbound Century will remain open, although some lanes may be blocked intermittently.

Westbound motorists on Century will be detoured north on Aviation Boulevard, west on Arbor Vitae Street then south on Airport Boulevard back to Century.

When completed in 2019, the 8.5-mile, $2.058 billion Crenshaw/LAX line will run from the Metro Expo Line, at Exposition and Crenshaw boulevards, to the Green Line station near the airport. LAX officials hope to build a “people mover” at the new 96th Street Station to connect the light rail line to LAX terminals.
