Enrique Iglesias was sued today by a music producer who alleges he is owed royalties from songs by the singer.
Steve Morales filed the lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging breach of contract. He is seeking unspecified damages.
A representative for the 39-year-old Iglesias could not be immediately reached.
The suit states Iglesias hired Morales in November 2000 as a producer on five master recordings. He also entered a similar contract with Morales in January 2001 for two recordings.
The songs Morales produced included “I Will Survive,” “Don’t Turn Off the Lights” and “Love 4 Fun” from the 2001 “Escape” album, the suit states.
Iglesias conducted an audit of the distributor of the “Escape” album and won a “financial recovery,” but Morales did not know about it until three months ago, the suit states.
Based on their contractual agreements, Morales now wants a share of the money Iglesias obtained after the audit, the suit states.
