The Arthritis Foundation, Pacific Region, has named Santa Monica resident Dr. Sharon Spooner Ophthalmology Honoree for the Greater Los Angeles “Walk to Cure Arthritis.”
The event will take place on Saturday, May 30, at Exposition Park, South Lawn, 700 Exposition Park Drive, Los Angeles.
Sharon Spooner, M.D. is a Pediatric Ophthalmologist and Strabismus Surgeon with a private practice in Santa Monica.
Dr. Spooner specializes in pediatric eye conditions related to juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
As an active member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus and the American Academy of Ophthalmology, she is consistently adding to her education expertise.
Dr. Spooner serves the community as a Reserve Officer with the Los Angeles Sheriff Department’s Search and Rescue Unit.
The public is invited to the Arthritis Foundation’s signature, national fundraising event to fight arthritis, the nation’s leading cause of disability.
Participants can choose a one-mile or three-mile non-competitive course.
Thousands of children and adults, along with their family and friends, will enjoy a day of fun and fitness while raising funds for a cure for arthritis. Registration opens at 7:30 am; the walk will begin at 9 am.

Arthritis is a crippling disease that affects more than 50 million adults and 300,000 children in the nation. In Los Angeles, there are 1.2 million adults and 42,000 children suffering from one of 150 different forms of arthritis.
The annual “Walk To Cure Arthritis” brings together thousands of children and adults suffering from Arthritis, as well as members of the residential and business communities.
Many local businesses form teams, sporting their company logos on hats or shirts. Families form teams and wear colorful shirts in honor or memory of a child or adult in their family who had or has arthritis.
Children of all ages, walking or in strollers, are welcome. Pet owners are encouraged to bring their dogs on leashes. There will be live entertainment, a Kids Zone, activities and refreshments before and following the Walk.
