A one-mile run/walk to raise funds for Nepal earthquake victims will be held Sunday in Santa Monica.
An estimated 500 runners and walkers are expected to attend the 11 a.m. event, sponsored by the This Time Foundation charity and headlined by actor Josh Duhamel.
Santa Monica-based plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Amonic said the foundation wants to send a team of doctors to Nepal to treat the thousands of people injured in two massive earthquakes, as well as donate money to the Nepal Red Cross.
“We just try to do good deeds and we’re trying to do what we can to help the people in Nepal,” Amonic said.
Duhamel described the situation in the Himalayan country as critical.
“The highest point on Earth is now at its lowest point of distress,” Duhamel said. “Right now in Nepal, thousands of injured people are waiting in the rubble for doctors and medical supplies.”
Runners and walkers will meet at a lot in the 2600 block of Barnard Way and proceed a mile to the Santa Monica Pier and back.
The suggested donation is $20 for adults, $10 for children. Participants can register at www.ThisTimeFoundation.org.
Amonic said he and co-founders Kelsey Howard and Marcia and Brian Caldirola formed This Time Foundation to join “with other charitable organizations, business and celebrities to raise funds and awareness through film production, events and social media campaigns to bring relief to impoverished peoples on Earth.”
The foundation has provided aid to disaster victims in Haiti, Japan and the Philippines in recent years, according to Amonic.
