The Santa Monica College Theatre Arts Department is currently presenting “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” through May 31 at the Theatre Arts Main Stage on the SMC main campus, 1900 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica.
In “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” – based on the Tony Award-winning book by Rachel Sheinkin — an eclectic group of youngsters competing for a spelling championship reveal hilarious and touching stories about their lives as they spell their way into our hearts. The heartwarming story conceived by Rebecca Feldman features music and lyrics by William Finn. The SMC production is directed by Janie Jones, with music direction by Gary Gray.
Show times are 8 p.m. on Friday May 29, and on Saturday, May 30. Matinees are at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, and on Saturday and Sunday, May 30 and 31.
Advance tickets range from $17 to $20 ($10 for preview), plus a service charge, and can be purchased by going to www.smc.edu/eventsinfo or by calling (310) 434-4319 or (310) 434-3005 Monday through Friday. Tickets are $3 higher at the door. Parking is free on Friday evenings and weekends.
