A 67-year-old Santa Monica resident was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 2, after pulling a knife at employees at a local retail store.
At 8:15 pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to a retail store located in the 2400 block of Pico Blvd. in order to investigate a report of a man with a knife.
When the officers arrived an employee of the store (accompanied by the suspect) met them. The employee had detained the suspect and was holding onto him. The officers then interviewed some staff members of the store in order to ascertain what had happened.
The officers learned that the suspect had entered the store and had begun to yell incoherent nonsense at customers within the store. The staff said that when this suspect had been asked to leave the store due to his obnoxious behavior he had responded by yelling that he was going to pull out a gun and kill an employee.
The staff told the officers that the suspect had made several failed attempts to retrieve something from his pocket but had eventually managed to remove a knife from the pocket and at that time an employee ran into the stock room and summoned the help of the police via telephone.
The officers arrested this Santa Monica man and he was charged with making criminal threats. Bail was set at $50,00
