Santa Monica Astronomy Club Turns 100

Mt. Wilson Observatory — the birthplace of modern astronomy, astrophysics and cosmology, and arguably the most significant observatory in the history of astronomy — turns 100 this year!

 
Guest speaker Tim Thompson has been associated with Mt. Wilson Observatory since 1981. He is one of the founders of the volunteer docent program, as well as the Session Director for public observing programs. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Mt. Wilson Institute,responsible for the management and funding of the observatory, with the permission and cooperation of the Carnegie Institute of Science, which owns the observatory. 
 
Tim also worked at JPL for many years, specializing in planetary atmospheres and infrared astronomy. Tim will present a fascinating talk on the history and current status of Mt. Wilson Observatory and its unique status in the field of astronomy — come on down!
