Last summer, Apple expanded the sound library of its proprietary music creation app GarageBand with seven sound packs by some of today’s most popular music producers and artists. They also threw in a remixing tutorial featuring songs from Lady Gaga and Dua Lipa. With this move, Apple honors its commitment to make GarageBand a catalyst for music creation and inspire more people to try their hands at music production with GarageBand.
Learn the Art of Remixing with Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga
Creating music in GarageBand is surprisingly easy and heaps of fun, whether you do it as a hobby or to earn money selling your royalty free music tracks online. You can teach yourself the ropes by watching a few YouTube videos and start dabbling with all the features in GarageBand. Or now you can hone your remixing skills with in-app video instruction with Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga revealing the stories behind their respective hit sons, Break My Heart and Free Woman. While you view the instruction videos, you can work on the actual songs and isolate tracks, add loops, and remix the songs any way you want. Talk about hands-on!
These Remix Sessions are a virtual version of Apple’s Today at Apple in-store music labs. These popular educational sessions featured some A-list artists such as Alicia Keys, Billie Eilish, and Taylor Swift. Hopefully, this means that more Remix Sessions with top musicians are in the pipeline.
Creative Inspiration from Today’s Biggest Hitmakers
Apple also supercharged the GarageBand sound library with 7 all-new Producer Packs. These are sound packs that include hundreds of royalty-free loops, synth patches, samples, instruments, beats, and drum kits, handpicked and created especially for GarageBand by some of the biggest hitmakers of the moment. Mark Lettieri, Boys Noize, Oak Felder, Soulection, Trakgirl, Tom Misch, and Take A Daytrip all collaborated with Apple to compile sound packs that embody the sound and vibe that made each of these producers unique and successful.
Just like the Remix Sessions, the Producer Packs come with in-app video nuggets containing encouragements and creative tips from each of the star producers
Companion Experience for “Watch the Sound With Mark Ronson”
If you liked the Apple TV+ original docuseries “Watch the Sound with Mark Ronson”, then you will love the additional Producer Pack that Apple included in its GarageBand update. This producer pack will enable you to experiment with sounds inspired by the music featured in the show. In every episode, award-winning producer Mark Ronson explores synergies between music and technology. With GarageBand, you can now play around with those technologies, from sampling to drum machines, synths, reverb, and both instrumental and vocal effects.
The Remix Sessions, Producer Packs, and the complimentary “Watch the Sound With Mark Ronson” Companion Experience are all available for free in the latest iOS and iPadOS version update of the music software, GarageBand 2.3.11.
