On May 5, at 9:10 p.m., officers saw a man riding his bicycle in the 1400 block of Third Street Promenade. That is in violation of a Santa Monica Municipal Code that prohibits the riding of bicycles in that, and other pertinent areas. The officers stood in front of the man in order to talk to him about his transgression, but he turned his bicycle around and began to cycle away in the opposite direction.
He did not get very far, though, because another officer confronted him about 25-feet away. The officer asked him to stop, but he responded by saying that he did not have to, and had no intention of complying with the officers’ demands. The officers told him that he was being detained for the municipal code violation, and requested to see his identification. The man again refused to comply, and began to walk away from the officers, adding that he did not have to tell them who he was. The officers then arrested him and transported him to jail, where he was charged with the municipal code violation, and obstructing a police officer. His bail was set at $10,000.
Apparently, the man continued to disobey the officers, even when he was undergoing the booking procedure at the police station. At press time, it is believed that the 26-year-old Las Vegas man still did not agree that he was required to cooperate with the officers requests.
