Closure Of Parking Structure 6 Creeps Closer: Last Day To Park Feb. 12:

Parking Structure 6 (PS6), located at 1431 2nd Street between Broadway and Santa Monica Boulevard, will be closed as of 12 a.m. on Feb. 13 and demolition will begin in March. All cars must exit PS6 by 11:59 p.m. on Feb. 12.

All other Downtown Structures will continue operating as usual. The Civic Lot and Structure at 333 Olympic Drive (Olympic and 4th Street) are good options for all-day parkers.

The Big Blue Bus is operating a shuttle between Downtown Santa Monica and the Civic Center in a continuous loop every ten minutes, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. – 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. – 7:40 p.m. In addition, Big Blue Bus lines 2 and 3 pick up on 4th Street just east of the Civic Center parking facilities every eight minutes during operating hours, offering convenient access to Downtown.

For more information on downtown parking, visit www.smgov.net/parking or call 310.458.8295.

Construction is expected to be complete in late 2013.

The new PS6 will have more than 700 spaces, roughly doubling what is currently available, on three subterranean levels and eight above-ground parking levels. The new structure offers many aesthetic and environmental improvements.

It includes space for up to 90 bicycles in racks and 19 motorcycles, and approximately 7,000 square feet of retail space fronting on 2nd Street. A dramatic west-facing staircase element will offer patrons ocean views as they enter and exit the structure and increase safety with its high visibility.

Parking Structure 6 was previously scheduled to close on February 16, with February 15 being the last day to park in the structure. The construction schedule has been revised and the new closing date is February 13.

The City, Downtown Santa Monica Inc. and the design/builders Morley Construction are making an extra effort to ensure that all disruptions caused by the rebuild are kept to a minimum. Traffic and pedestrian impacts are expected to be minimal and alley access will be maintained. Mitigation measures to control noise and dust are planned beyond the normal requirements.

The City of Santa Monica has launched a new mobile-friendly parking map that provides real-time parking availability for the city’s 33 downtown and beach parking facilities. Users can now go to www.smgov.net/mobileparkingmaps to find real time parking information using any mobile phone with an Internet connection.

Santa Monica residents and businesses can stay updated on PS6 and other capital improvement projects coming to Downtown and the rest of Santa Monica over the next several years by visiting www.SMConstructs.org, a new website launched by the city to provide as much information as possible about these exciting projects and keep the public informed of possible construction impacts.
