City to Observe National Day of Prayer May 5:

The City of Santa Monica will hold its 15th annual observance of the National Day of Prayer at 7 a.m. Thursday, May 5, on the front lawn of Santa Monica City Hall, 1685 Main Street.

A light breakfast of coffee and bagels will be served at 6:30 a.m. This year’s theme is “God Shed His Grace on Thee,” taken from “America the Beautiful.”

According to a City press release, “Area pastors and community leaders will offer prayers for the president and other governmental leaders, the armed services, peace officers, legislators, judges, the community and nation and such topics as personal renewal and moral awakening, youths, the family, business, education, the sick, the imprisoned and persecuted, churches, missionaries and ministry organizations.”

Among those scheduled to take part are Pastors Clarence Crites, Santa Monica Church of the Nazarene; Herman Kemp, Calvary Baptist Church; Keith Magee, Trinity Baptist Church; Jeff McCulty, Good Shepherd Baptist Church; Bill Miles, First Christian Church; Rob Scribner, Lighthouse Church; and George Neos, Yale Street Lighthouse Church. Also leading prayers will be Dorothy Larson of Community Bible Study, fire Captain Mike Lavoie and police Officer Dennis Lynch.The Santa Monica National Day of Prayer Youth Choir will sing patriotic songs and hymns. The Ronald Reagan Division of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps will present the colors.
