A Santa Monica Dignity Memorial provider has announced a renewed effort to enlist the community’s support to help deployed military members “call home.”
Gates, Kingsley & Gates Moeller Murphy Funeral Directors will serve as a collection spot for gently used cell phones, which will be sent to Cell Phones for Soldiers, a nonprofit dedicated to providing cost-free communication services to active-duty military members and veterans.
Gates, Kingsley & Gates Moeller Murphy’s employees, along with businesses and residents throughout the Santa Monica and South Bay area, are encouraged to donate their unwanted, gently used cell phones to the cause.
Cell Phones for Soldiers will recycle the cell phones, and use the proceeds to provide pre-paid calling cards and cell phones to troops serving in the U.S. Armed Forces.
“We are honored to serve as a collection site for this important effort,” said Jeffrey Baker, general manager, Gates, Kingsley & Gates Moeller Murphy. “We realize that as long as our military are deployed abroad, the services provided through this effort are essential. We are committed to helping provide our service men and women with the means to stay in touch with their families, who cherish every single call home.”
Phones can be dropped off daily between 9 am and 5 pm at Gates, Kingsley & Gates Moeller Murphy Funeral Directors, 1925 Arizona Avenue, Santa Monica.
