Santa Monica police arrested a couple and charged them both with domestic violence on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to the 900 block of 14th Street after dispatch had received a 9-1-1 hang up call from the location. When the officers arrived they knocked on the door of the residence and after a few moments a 53-year-old woman answered the door.
The officers noticed that this woman was holding an ice pack against her arm so the officers asked her what had happened. The woman told the officers that her “boyfriend” had struck her with a frying pan. The officers asked the woman to elaborate and she told the officers that her “boyfriend” had become upset with her after she had expressed a desire to accompany him to an appointment.
She said that they had become involved in a raucous argument and that the boyfriend had brought the argument to a climax by using the frying pan with which to hit her.
She added that she had then retrieved a bottle of hydrogen peroxide from the freezer in order to place it against her arm to reduce swelling when she had “accidentally spilled” some over her “boyfriend.”
The “boyfriend” told the officers that he had been the victim after the woman had attacked him and that he had merely used the frying pan as a shield against her onslaught.
The officers were by this time so overwhelmed by contradictory claims from both the parties that they decided to arrest the woman and her 66-year-old “boyfriend” and they were both charged with domestic violence. Bail for each was set at $50,000
