Chief of Staff Remains at SM-UCLA:

Malibu family physician and Santa Monica resident David B. Baron has been reelected chief of staff for 2007 at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center.

Dr. Baron has a long and proud history with the hospital dating back to his days as a family medicine resident in 1988. Prior to becoming the chief physician last year, he had served as the medical center’s vice chief of staff for two years, as well as chair of its Family Medicine Department.

A 15-year Santa Monica resident, Dr. Baron runs a concierge medical practice called Primary Caring of Malibu, which uses a membership model to provide patients with a wide range of personalized services and amenities. He is a board-certified family physician who completed his residency at the medical center in 1991 before entering private practice in Malibu. He attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania and earned his undergraduate degree from Amherst College in Massachusetts.

Dr. Baron also serves as a medical expert for KNX Radio. He is an accomplished singer-songwriter and pianist who performs with other physicians in a band called Malpractice. The band has played at numerous events, including Santa Monica-UCLA’s “80th Anniversary Celebration” last October.

“This is another pivotal year for Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center as its rebuilding project moves closer to completion and it opens a new Emergency Center and other parts of its new hospital to better serve our community,” Dr. Baron said. “I look forward to working closely with hospital administrators and my colleagues on the medical staff to continue our quest to make Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital a center of excellence for all Westside residents.”

Joining Dr. Baron as officers on Santa Monica-UCLA’s 2007 Executive Medical Board are Drs. Chester Griffiths and Denise Sur, who were reelected vice chief of staff and secretary-treasurer, respectively. Dr. Griffiths is an ear, nose and throat specialist based in West Los Angeles. Dr. Sur is director of the UCLA Family Medicine Residency Program.

Other members of the board, which oversees medical affairs at Santa Monica-UCLA, are Drs. Gerald Finerman, Denise Freese, William Growdon, Peter Lefevre, Philip Levin, James Luck, Hugh MacDonald, Bernard Weintraub, Dennis Woo and Edward Zaragoza.
