UCLA’s chapter of Circle K International (CKI) stood triumphant at at the 61st annual Circle K International Convention in Toronto, Canada, June 22-25, placing in three competitive categories.

In case you might be wondering about the meaning of the title of Alexandra Gersten-Vassilaros’ dramedy* “Big Sky,” an immediate thought could come to mind. Maybe it’s the expansive view from the exquisite Ritz Carlton condominium setting for this play, which is in the swanky ski-country of Aspen, Colorado? Skydiving perhaps? Long plane trip? Cameras flash, the audience cheers, and graceful models strut the runway in brilliant ensembles. On Thursday, June 16, Santa Monica College’s (SMC) Fashion Program held its annual LA Mode fashion show at Barnum Hall in Santa Monica. Enrolled in SMC’s Fashion Program, 13 student designers from all over the world produced an individual collection as their two-year fashion studies came to a close.

On Tuesday, June 21, at 7:25 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the Santa Monica Animal Shelter, located at 1640 Ninth Street, in order to investigate an attempted burglary. When the officers arrived at the location they spoke with Animal Control officers who told them that a padlock and hasp on one of the kennels had been damaged and that they had also found a large rock outside the gate.

On Saturday morning, Santa Monica residents gathered at Santa Monica’s Airport Park to learn about and give feedback on the park’s future expansion and how it might affect the city.

Mark Rios, who founded his own design firm in 1985, is spearheading the project. The event began with a comprehensive presentation by Rios outlining his priorities as well as three proposed plans for what the completed park might look like. The project aims to incorporate 12 acres of non-aviation land adjacent to the existing park, practically tripling its size.

On Thursday, June 16, at 1:29 p.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the Santa Monica Chrysler-Dodge Dealership, located at 3219 Santa Monica Blvd., in order to investigate a report of fraudulent activity.

The Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce installed their new 2016-2017 board June 15, with an evening at host hotel Fairmont Miramar Hotel and Bungalows welcoming new and old members in celebration.

Chair of the Board Yesenia Monsour officially took them helm, sworn in by Santa Monica Mayor Tony Vazquez under the hotel’s historic Fig Tree.
