Big Victory Boosts Brentwood’s Hopes:

The outcome of Brentwood’s football season is coming down to the final game on the schedule.

With a 28-13 win at Whittier Christian on Friday, November 3, the Eagles put themselves into position to control their playoff destiny. But they’ll have to defeat Campbell Hall in a 2 p.m. game Friday, November 10 at Brentwood.

Brentwood came back from a loss to Maranatha that could have been devastating. Instead the Eagles put forth a strong effort and scored a touchdown in each of the four quarters.

The catalyst was Manny Benton, who rushed for 229 yards on 31 carries and scored three touchdowns.

This is the same Brentwood team that couldn’t run effectively in the season’s first two games and went to an offense featuring passing.

“The offensive line is doing an outstanding job now,” said Coach Patrick Brown. “By establishing our passing game in the first few games the opponents began playing us to stop the pass and it has helped our running game.”

Brentwood led at halftime, 14-7. Whittier Christian scored a touchdown in the third quarter but missed the extra point, and then Brentwood pulled away.

Brown praised Ian Shaw, Taylor Levin and Taylor Ross for their defensive play.

If Brentwood wins Friday it can earn a tie for first place in the Alpha league. If it loses it could fall to fourth place and fail to secure a playoff berth.
