On Thursday, June 12, at the Santa Monica Elks Lodge on Pico Boulevard, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks celebrated Flag Day and Father’s Day, marking the 100th anniversary of the first fraternal group to observe Flag Day. Exalted Ruler Frank Frazier and his corps of officers observed the Flag Day ritual, and Americanism Chairman R.A. Pickett presented Frazier with a commendation from Mayor Katz and the City of Santa Monica. The Emblem Club 154 performed a Flag Folding ceremony. Girl Scouts from Troop 453 paraded the historical flags of the United States. The Elks gave flags to each scout, to Capt. Venegas and Lt. Salerno of the Santa Monica Police Department, and to Chief Hone of the Santa Monica Fire Department. Dinner was served before the event.
