Lady Vikings Trounce Beverly Hills: Samohi Girls Hoops Have ‘Momentum’ With Latest Win

Santa Monica High School girls basketball team took care of business at Beverly Hills Friday, beating the Normans 58-21 behind a solid defensive effort and even scoring.

Samohi’s Moriah Faulk limited Beverly Hills’ best player Chelsea Orton to six points while Kristina Johnson had 12 points for the Lady Vikings, who will host Morningside and Hawthorne next Tuesday and Thursday to finish the regular season.

“The feeling is we’ve got momentum going into last week and the spirit is pretty high,” said head coach Marty Verdugo.

The defense-first mentality, which has been at the center of Verdugo’s coaching philosophy, has resulted in back-to-back wins for the Lady Vikings. Similarly to the Culver City contest, they dominated from the tip-off and didn’t look back.

“We came out of the gates really fast,” Verdugo said. “Everybody got to play a lot in the second half.”
