On Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 5:30 p.m., officers went to Bill’s Liquor, located on the 2200 block of Lincoln Boulevard, in response to a report of an armed robbery.
When they arrived they heard from the victim, who told them that he had been standing in line waiting to make his purchase when the suspect went to the refrigerator, removed a case of beer, and left the store without paying. The victim chased after the suspect, and when they were in the 700 block of Pacific Avenue, the victim yelled at the suspect to stop and return the beer. At that point the suspect turned around and threw the beer at the victim, striking him in his chest. The suspect then fled the scene.
Officers went in search and located the suspect a short distance away. He was walking on the sidewalk, drinking one of the beers. He also had a spare beer in his pocket. The officers arrested this 21-year-old transient, and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon, and burglary. His bail was set at $30,000.
