The Santa Monica YMCA is seeking volunteers to help with the youth basketball program, which begins later this month.
There is a need for coaches and assistants, plus game officials, scorekeepers and scoreboard operators.
Coaches and officials must be at least 17 years old and in their senior year of high school, and must undergo a background check (paid for by the Y) prior to beginning in the program.
Game officials and assistant coaches may be any age, provided they have good knowledge of the game.
All groups will undergo a short training session. Game officials will be paid a small stipend per game worked.
Children interested in playing in the fall basketball league may sing up now through September 27 at the Y, located at Sixth St. and Santa Monica Blvd.
Leagues are planned for grades 1-3, 4-5, and 6-8, with fall session games beginning in early October.
