Man Arrested For Assaulting Partner, Tries To Draw ‘The Joker’ While On Top Of Her: Alert Police Blotter: He Made His Mark.

A Santa Monica man who took out a marker and tried to draw “The Joker” on his girlfriend’s face while he pinned her down during a fight because he was jealous she had gone out with male friends was arrested on Aug. 17.

At 1:23 a.m. officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the 2100 block of Ocean Avenue to “check the status” of a reported combative couple.

Upon arrival at the scene the officers spoke with the male half (who had called the report in). This man told the officers that his girlfriend had slapped and scratched him because she thought he had taken the keys to her apartment.

The man then added that he had accompanied his girlfriend to the apartment in order to attempt to locate the keys, and while they were there they had begun fighting.

This fight included, at one point during the conflict, the act of the man pushing the girlfriend onto the bed and drawing on her face with a marker.

The man had claimed that he had been jealous because the girlfriend had gone out with some male friends earlier.

He had told his girlfriend that he was going to draw “The Joker” on her face as punishment for going out with the male friends (you can’t make this up!).

The girlfriend had managed to push and punch the man in order to get him off, but as the officers noticed, she had sustained some red marks on her neck and under her chin as a result of the fracas.

The handling officer, after weighing up all the evidence and claims, decided that the man was the dominant aggressor and so he was arrested and charged with simple assault.

The bail for this 29-year-old Santa Monica resident was set at $20,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
